He has been interim twice since last school year
It was made official at Wednesday’s board meeting -Ronnie Lawhead has been announced as the new Principal at Madison Consolidated High School. “We are thrilled to share this news with our students, staff, families, and community,” shared Dr. Teresa Brown, Superintendent. “Mr. Lawhead has done an incredible job leading the high school through a year of unexpected changes. His grace, professionalism, and commitment to doing what is best for our students have never been more visible and valued.”
Lawhead stepped into the interim role twice since the beginning of the school year. “The leadership, growth, and commitment to excellence in education that we have seen from Mr. Lawhead has confirmed that he is the right person to lead our high school,” Brown continued.
Following the formal proceedings at the board meeting, Lawhead was presented with a poster created by high school students to officially welcome him to his permanent position. “This project was led by Senior, Harrison Hall,” shared district Media Director and MCHS Student Council sponsor Jennifer Cornelius. “The kids wanted Mr. Lawhead to know he is appreciated!” The card was signed by several high school students to congratulate Mr. Lawhead.
Lawhead has served as the Assistant Principal at MCHS since 2019. His experience in the classroom, systems thinking approach, and in-depth experience with process improvements make him a well-rounded administrator. Lawhead has demonstrated a commitment to improving student attendance and discipline, master scheduling to leverage expanding student opportunities, and expanding parental partnerships school-wide. He will also foster change within the school environment through passion, compassion, and accountability and will put MCHS in a position to improve the high school experience for our students and prepare them for their future. He will serve our community well.
“My guiding purpose as Principal is to continue to move forward with consistency,” shared Lawhead. “I will continue to focus on building relationships through real conversations and creating shared accountability aligned with high expectations. We will continue our work to create a more engaging learning and working environment for our students and staff.”
His career in education began in 2008 following a ten-year career in various sectors. He spent four years in the United States Army and six years working for the Department of Defense as an electronic technician. Lawhead specialized in Radio and Communications Security and microwave tubes. As a substitute teacher in Seymour Community Schools, he first gained experience in grades K-12 across all subject areas, managed behavioral classroom issues, and worked with students who had learning, emotional, and physical disabilities.
Following the completion of his degree in 2010, Lawhead joined the teaching team at MCHS. During his tenure as an educator, he was the Program Leader for English Language Arts, initiated and led the development of the SELECT Independent Learning Academy, was the AVID High School Site Team Coordinator, a building eLeader, a member of the high school PBIS Team, and taught the inaugural course of AP Seminar (Capstone). Lawhead was a classroom innovator who held students to high standards until the time he transitioned to administration in 2019. He and his wife Ami relocated to Madison in 2020, making this their home. Both enjoy the atmosphere Madison has to offer, from the mom-and-pop shops and the opportunities to hear live music to the many festivals.
Lawhead holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University Southeast and a Master's degree in Education Administration and Leadership from Ball State Universit
