(Jefferson County, Ind.) -  The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that there will be single-lane closures taking place on U.S. 421/Harrison Street beginning on Monday, October 12.

Road closures will be taking place between 1st Street and the Madison-Milton Bridge in downtown Madison. Crews will be completing reconstruction work consisting of pavement removal, subgrade treatment, and asphalt paving.

Temporary signals will be installed to control the traffic going to and from the bridge. The signal is anticipated to be in place for approximately 30 days, weather permitting.

During peak times, traffic delays are possible.

Installation of the permanent four-way signal at U.S. 421 and 2nd Street, along with a majority of the contracted work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Crews will return to the site in the spring of 2021 to complete final surface paving and striping.

While crews are working, motorists are advised to use caution in the area and drive distraction-free.
