(Frankfort, KY.) - As the state of Kentucky’s positive cases of coronavirus climb over 100 Governor Andy Beshear has now said that all nonessential businesses would have to close tonight March 23.
Beshear said that the number of positive cases has reached 103, which is 16 more than the total posted on Saturday which was 87.
“We expect this, this is the way this virus works,” he said Sunday afternoon during his regular press conference.
Beshear has now ordered more closings of non-essential businesses by 8:00 p.m. tonight.
Businesses affected by the order are entertainment, sporting goods, clothing, shoes, jewelry, bookstores, florists, furniture, and auto dealers.
“While people can’t come into the stores to get something, they can still order on the phone or online, and there can be curbside service or delivery,” he said.
The restrictions do not include grocery stores, pharmacies and drug stores, gas stations, auto repair, parts businesses, and liquor stores.
Beshear previously recommended that medical facilities cease elective or non-essential procedures, starting today it is now mandatory.
He also urged to use caution when handling gas pumps. “This virus can live on just about any surface for a while, so use your hand sanitizer, bring it in your car, or wash your hands after using a gas pump.”
Beshear said when the coronavirus crisis ends he hoped to be able to look back positively on how it was handled.
“I look forward to that day where we can all be back within six feet of each other,” said Beshear.
