KSP Offers Tips For Dealing with Potential Weather Threats

NEWS RELEASE

Potential Severe Weather for Kentucky Thursday and Friday

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. (03/23/2023) – The current forecast projects a chance of thunderstorms moving into the area Thursday evening and into Friday.  The more severe weather is expected on Friday.  These storms could include heavy rains, lightning, strong possibly damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.  As a result of the heavy rains forecasted during this period of time flooding is also a possible concern.

Avoid calling 911 seeking weather or road conditions.  Call volume will likely be much higher than usual.  The telecommunicators will need the lines open to assist callers who have emergencies.

The following are some tips for driving in severe weather:

-Reduce speed while driving in heavy rains

-Leave early to allow more travel time

-Make sure your vehicle is in good operating condition(including but not limited to windshield wipers)

-Drivers need to be prepared to meet the challenges of driving in the adverse weather conditions. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained

-Increase distance between vehicles to allow more time for slowing/stopping

-Drive with headlights, not bright lights, on

-Charge your cellular phone prior to travel

-Dress appropriately for the weather

-Do not drive into deep water

-If you begin to hydroplane steer the direction you want to go

-Avoid unnecessary travel

We encourage all motorists to check the current conditions before leaving if they must travel.
