UPDATE: Kentucky State Police Investigates Trooper-Involved Shooting in Trimble County

Investigation is ongoing

                                     

MILTON, Ky, (March 29, 2022) - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team continues the investigation into a trooper-involved shooting that occurred March 22 at approximately 8:51 p.m. in Trimble County.

 The preliminary investigation indicates on March 22 at approximately 8:39 p.m., KSP Post 5 received a telephone call from an individual residing in Madison, IN. The caller advised they owned property on Moffett Road located in Trimble County, and suspected a person was currently on this property without permission. The caller further stated a family member was traveling to the property to investigate.

 KSP and the Trimble County Sheriff’s Office responded to Moffett Road to investigate the Trespassing Complaint. After arriving on scene, a trooper encountered a male armed with a firearm, pointed at law enforcement. The trooper identified himself and gave numerous commands for the individual to drop the weapon. When the individual pointed a pistol at the trooper, the trooper discharged his agency-issued firearm striking the subject and ending the incident.

 KSP troopers on scene rendered medical aid to the individual until Trimble County EMS arrived. The individual was transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital.

 No other citizens were injured during the incident.

 The KSP Critical Incident Response Team investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

 KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. A male subject was transported to the University of Louisville hospital for treatment.
