Covington Police Ask For Assistance from KSP after Officer Involved Shooting

Covington, Ky.  (June 18, 2021) –The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has been requested by Covington Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 11:34 pm EST on June 17 in Covington.

At the request of the Covington Police Department, KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team and detectives from KSP Post 6 have arrived on the scene and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. A male suspect was transported by Covington Fire Department to University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy is pending by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office in Cincinnati.   

No officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
