JCSD and ISP investigating shooting in NW Jennings County home

(Jennings County, Ind.) - On December 5, 2020 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Jennings County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a man being shot in northwestern Jennings County. A homeowner called Jennings County Dispatch to report he had shot an intruder that had made entry into his home and there had been a physical altercation.
While deputies were en-route to the incident, Jennings County Dispatch received another call in reference to a male subject at the Elizabethtown Fire Department stating that he had been shot. Deputies responded to both the residence and fire station where medical aid was provided and an investigation ensued.
Indiana State Police Investigators and Crime Scene Technicians were contacted to assist in the investigation. During the course of the investigation, it was determined there was a physical altercation between the homeowner and a male subject who gained entry into the home. The homeowner discharged his firearm striking the male subject.
The injured male who was shot drove himself to the Elizabethtown Fire Station. Medical aid was provided by members of the Elizabethtown Fire Department and area law enforcement. The male subject was eventually airlifted to an Indianapolis area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound and is currently listed in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
This was an isolated incident and at no time was the general public in danger.
