Jefferson County Man Found Deceased After Two Day Search

Melton was reported missing by his family on January 19.

(Jefferson County, Ind.) – On January 21, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Shane Melton was located deceased in the 1300 block of J.A Berry Lane in Jefferson County.

Melton was reported missing by his family on January 19.

Police believe that Melton was the driver of a single-vehicle accident that occurred on January 17, near the intersection of Dawson Smith Road and Shun Pike. The driver of the vehicle left the area of the wreck without contacting law enforcement.

On January 20, family and friends of Melon conducted an area search along W. Dawson Smith Rd. Jefferson County Deputies spoke with members of the search team on that day and offered their assistance.

The search for Melton resumed on January 21 at 8:00 a.m., a local area pilot, Air Methodist, and a drone pilot conducted aerial searches of the area, while others conducted the ground search.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that they are very appreciative of those assisted in this unfortunate event.
