JEFFERSON COUNTY JAIL INMATES TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID

Site manager has been working closely with both local and state health officials

On January 18, 2022, we had both inmates and Jail staff who reported CoVid-19 symptoms

and who subsequently tested positive with the use of Binax Now rapid antigen tests. As of

Sunday, January 23, 2022 we have positive cases in all of the housing units at the Jefferson

County Jail. Our medical site manager has been working closely with both local and state health

officials. A strike team from the Indiana State Department of Health was requested to come in to

test all inmates. However due to the massive surge of Omicron across the state, there are no

strike teams available at this time. Therefore, per the guidance of the Indiana Department of

Corrections Chief Medical Officer, all inmates are presumed to be positive and their symptoms

are being treated free of charge once they report symptoms to the medical department. Masks

continue to be available to all inmates and their proper use is encouraged at all times. At the

time of this release, our detainees have only reported mild to moderate symptoms and none

have had to be transferred out for higher level care. Our Jail Officers and medical staff are working

overtime to ensure that the medical needs and other daily needs of the inmate population are being met.
