He has been in office since 2019
D.J. Mote, Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge, has announced he is seeking re-election this year. The first Republican elected in decades to be Circuit Court Judge in Jefferson County, Mote first took office on January 2, 2019.
“We’ve made a lot of improvements since 2019 in terms of how Circuit Court operates. The court itself is more efficient and accessible, and we work well with other offices and the community,” said Mote. “I look forward to sharing more about the progress we’ve made as this campaign continues.”
The Jefferson Circuit Court handles all major felony criminal cases, probate matters such as wills and trusts, guardianships, matters involving mental health, and juvenile CHINS and delinquency cases. The Court also splits civil protection orders, juvenile paternity, divorce, and civil case filings evenly with the Superior Court.
Mote and his wife Katie have been married 15 years and live in Madison with their 2 children, Hunter and James. Mote will be on the Republican ticket for the primary election scheduled May 7, 2024. Mote’s campaign treasurer is Maddy Schmidt
