Jefferson County Board of Commissioners Pledges $50,000 for Madison Riverfront Super Overlook Project

Madison, Indiana, June 15, 2022 Madison’s Riverfront Super Overlook project received a show of support from county leaders on May 30th when the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners, Madison, IN, pledged $50,000 to the Madison Riverfront Development Committee’s Super Overlook Project. The Riverfront Development Committee thanks the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners for their generous investment in the City of Madison, Jefferson County, and the riverfront. This project will continue to transform the already stunning 1.5-mile riverfront walkway into an accessible and inviting destination for residents, tourists, and businesses. “This is an exciting economic opportunity for Jefferson County, and we are happy to support projects that secure the future of our next generations in Jefferson County,” states Ron Lee, President of the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners. Super Overlook Project Highlights: *Level 1: 4800 Sq. Ft. angular structure providing seating and 1200 sq. ft. of shade daily. (10X bigger than existing overlooks) *Level 2: 1200 Sq. Ft. Arched Structure Observation Deck providing incredible views of the breathtaking Madison Riverfront. *8-9 Lighted rows *Total terraced seating length approx. 230-250 feet long *Street level, raised approx. 12-15 feet from current location *Construction of 90% concrete (faux stone) and 10% steel. The Super Overlook will become the premier location for local events such as weddings, festivals, concerts, car shows, fundraisers, and fishing tournaments, as well as stops by the Delta Queen, American Queen, and Mississippi Queen Riverboats. Additionally, it will be the anchor for the Indiana Governor’s Cup Regatta. Please look for additional press releases and updates. About the Madison Riverfront Development Committee: The organization was formed on March 18, 1986, by a group of local individuals who had a vision to enhance the natural beauty of the Madison Riverfront while creating an atmosphere which encourages residents and visitors to gather. The primary focus of the organization is to protect the past while enhancing the future. Madison sits on the bank of the Ohio River with breathtaking views of Kentucky and the Ohio River Valley. The famed Madison brick walkway stretches 1.5 miles and serves as a reminder of what a community can accomplish when it works together.
