(Jefferson County, Ind.) - )- During today's briefing on COVID-19, health and government officials gave updates on the counties' continued fight against the coronavirus.

To date, there have been 284 patients tested in the county with 22 of those patients testing positive for the coronavirus.

Tammy Monroe, Director of Jefferson County Health Department, gave an update about a drive-thru clinic that will be happening Saturday, April 25 at the Ivy Tech in Madison. This clinic has been set up by the Indiana State Department of Health as part of its new partnership with the Indiana University School of Public Health at IUPUI.

This testing site is for preselected participants, "If you have been selected you would have received a phone call, email, or letter in the mail," said Monroe. "It is strongly encouraged that you participate if you have been selected."

If you need more information on this you can contact the Indiana State Department of Health.

Monroe spoke on the fact that there have been recent suggestions made to inject yourself with sterilizers to prevent yourself from catching the coronavirus.

"While sterilizers will kill the virus, you will also kill yourself in the process, so please do not do this," said Monroe.

Monroe also instructed residents to wear a mask while you are out in public and also mentioned that it would be a good idea to sanitize groceries.

Shane Williams, director of EMS and emergency preparedness for KDH, stated that most of the patients who have tested positive for the virus have been recovering within two weeks and are not having to be hospitalized. He also stated that most of the patients they have been seeing are between the ages of 41- 50 years old and 51- 60 years old.

Both Sheriff Thomas and Chief Wallace updated that all officers have been tested for the coronavirus since one of the jail officers had tested positive. They both expressed their gratitude to the staff at KDH for making the experience quick and easy.

Sheriff Thomas also stated that if anybody would like to donate masks or shields to the department it would be greatly appreciated.

Briefings are now going to be moved to one day a week on Friday's at 10:00 a.m.
