(Jefferson County, Ind.) – County residents will now be able to hit the roads in their golf carts.

During last night's county commissioners meeting, they passed a county golf cart ordinance. While many are ready to hit the roads in their golf carts, there are some rules that do come along with this ordinance.

Some of the rules are as follows, golf carts may not be operated on State Roads 56, 62, or 7 or on U.S. Highway 421. Golf carts may cross these highways at intersections only.

Another safety guideline that has been outlined in this ordinance is that the number of occupants in a golf cart shall be limited to the number of persons for whom factory seating is installed and provided on the golf cart.

If you would like to purchase stickers for your golf carts to make them accessible for the roadways, you can purchase them beginning Monday, August 10 at the Jefferson County Courthouse in the Auditors Office.

Stickers will be $30 and will last through the remainder of 2020 and 2021.
