MADISON, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Madison is pleased to announce the appointment of Kay Stokes as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA).
Stokes brings 26 years of experience in higher education, with her most recent role at Hanover College serving as the Special Assistant to the President for Accreditation and External Relations. In this role, Stokes led a successful HLC Comprehensive Accreditation visit and assisted with the execution of the “Hanover Stands Above” Strategic Plan. In her previous role as Director of Hanover’s Gladish Center for Teaching and Learning, Stokes created and ran the College’s academic support programs, including its peer tutoring center, accessibility services program, and first-year success course. Since 1997, Stokes has taught a wide range of courses including the first-year success seminar, creative writing, journalism, poetry, and English literature. Stokes assisted Hanover College in securing new program funding as the principal grant writer, earning $5.9 million for the READI grant for the Veterinary Teaching Center and $2+ million in Lilly Endowment Inc. grants. Stokes worked alongside Ivy Tech Madison in overseeing new program development for the BSN in Nursing and Veterinary Teaching Center partnerships.
As VCAA, Stokes will provide leadership and supervision for all campus academic schools, classroom outcomes, instructional technology, library services, testing services, and serve as chief advisor to the Chancellor in the formation of policies affecting all academic programs. Stokes will play a crucial role in ensuring alignment with the College’s core values, fostering diversity, community engagement, and implementing strategies to enhance student success.

Stokes holds a Master of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from McNeese State University. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Florida. Stokes will begin on July 1st, 2024.
