IVY TECH CELEBRATES WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

CELEBRATING 60 YEARS

March is Women’s History Month in the U.S. – a milestone that has been recognized by Presidents and Congress since 1980. The theme for 2023 is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”

March also is a big month for Ivy Tech Community College and the women who lead it. Ivy Tech will celebrate its 60th anniversary on March 15. With 19 campuses and around 150,000 students, Ivy Tech is the largest community college in Indiana and the largest singly accredited community college in the country. Ivy Tech contributes nearly $4 billion annually to Indiana’s economy and is making an impact in communities across the state.

One woman leader, Dr. Amanda Harsin, Ph.D., was named Chancellor of the Ivy Tech Madison campus earlier this year. Previously, she had served as interim Chancellor and had been Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for five years prior.

Whether it’s developing a partnership with Hanover College that includes the launch of veterinary teaching facilities for needed careers in veterinary nursing in 2025 or initiating a partnership with Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) that includes a correctional education team to provide for all high school equivalency and vocational classrooms across IDOC facilities, under Harsin’s leadership, Ivy Tech Madison is making a real difference in the lives of Hoosiers.

I believe this dynamic leader, her personal story and her noteworthy efforts to create impact and opportunity in the Madison area would be of interest to you in Women’s History Month and beyond.
