Inmate Charged With Attempted Escape, Battery

(Jennings County, Ind.) – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving an inmate who attempted to flee the Jennings County Jail and committed battery on jail officers.

 On Monday, May 18, Jail Sergeant Steve Frey opened a holding cell door to check on the status of an inmate.

Once the door was opened, inmate Jadiah Duncan attacked Frey and attempted to push him to the ground and run towards the hallway doors.

Frey was able to keep the inmate from approaching the hallway door.

Duncan did not comply with Frey’s verbal commands and continued to fight with Frey. Jail Captain Evan Ponsler assisted Frey and was able to gain control of Duncan after deploying his taser, Duncan was eventually returned to his cell.

During the altercation, Captain Evan Ponsler sustained and injury to his knee and was treated and released from a local hospital.
