(Indianapolis, Ind.) – In response to this peculiar time, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is honoring educators across the Hoosier state.
Usually, one educator is recognized as teacher of the year, but yesterday IDOE recognized all Indiana teachers as the 2021 Teacher of the Year.
“The COVID-19 pandemic brought new complexities and challenges to schools with no advance warning,” said State Superintendent Dr. Jennifer McCormick. “Teachers across our state have displayed a level of flexibility and commitment, underscoring the fact Hoosiers really are #INthisTogether.”
Beginning 60 years ago, the teacher of the year program has recognized an outstanding classroom teacher, with a mission to “inspire, rejuvenate, and celebrate the teaching profession.”
During this time of untraditional schooling, IDOE has taken this opportunity to recognize all the dedicated educators the serve the 1.2 million students.
The traditional process will resume in 2022.
