House Bill Proposes Teacher Minimum Wage Be Set At $50K

Average salary currently just over 35 thousand dollars

A new Indiana House proposal would raise teacher pay to 50 thousand dollars a year at minimum.

The suggested legislation comes after Governor Holcomb and conservative lawmakers have agreed that educators' salaries need to increase.

National Education Association data shows teachers in the Hoosier state start with an average salary of just over 35 thousand dollars.

If passed, the bill would also eliminate textbook fees, instead requiring public schools to provide materials for free to parents.
