Gas Leak Closes Jefferson Co. Courthouse On Tuesday

Court cases will be rescheduled

The Jefferson Co. Courthouse was closed yesterday after a report of a gas smell came in around 7:30 yesterday morning.

The gas leak appeared to be from one of the boilers in the courthouse basement.

Vectren arrived on scene to shut the gas off to the boiler.

The Courthouse will be open today, normal business hours.

With the closing of the Jefferson County Courthouse yesterday, all offices were closed for the day and cases were postponed in criminal and civil courts that had been scheduled for Tuesday.

Those cases will have to be worked into the docket for a future day in court but the defendants are at no risk for being held in contempt of court as long as they show for the rescheduled court date.
