Flood Warning Now Issued For Ohio River At Clifty Creek And Markland Dam

Jefferson Co Emergency Management continues to monitor local streams, tributaries, river and its gauges as well as other forecast data. Most recent projections indicate we can expect some minor to moderate flooding in the days to come. Some points of reference: at 449ft the road to Hanover Beach is flooded. At 453ft water reaches Vaughn Drive. EMA continues to monitor the situation but encourages everyone to be aware of the situation around you. Conditions can change rapidly. Make any necessary arrangements now.

 

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Flood Warning for the Ohio River at Markland Dam, from Tuesday evening to late Thursday night. At 1 PM the stage was at 45.9 feet. Flood stage is 51 feet. Minor flooding is forecasted. The river will rise above flood stage late Tuesday evening and continue to rise to near 53 feet by Wednesday afternoon. The river will then fall below flood stage by Thursday night. At stages near 53 feet, low land roads near the river are flooded including low-lying roads near Carrollton,, Vevay, Warsaw and Florence. Portions of Indiana Route 56 are flooded downstream of Vevay. At this time though state Route 56 between Vevay and Madison is still open. And 156 between Vevay and Rising Sun is still open. (SCEMA).
