Three charges against subject
On October 27th 2019, in the evening hours Jennings County Sheriff’s Deputies served an arrest warrant on Thomas Burton (age 32 of North Vernon) at a residence on Kensington Square. Upon Deputies arrival, they attempted to make contact with Thomas. Thomas fled from the rear of the residence.
Deputies were able to establish a perimeter and Sgt. Cody Low deployed his canine partner in attempt to track the suspect. Before a track was started, Reserve Deputy Ray Mason located Thomas hiding nearby. Thomas failed to comply with commands and fled from Mason on foot. Thomas fled back to the original location where Sgt. Low and his canine partner, Axel, were waiting.
Sgt. Low gave commands for Thomas to stop and Thomas failed to comply. Canine Axel was released to apprehend Thomas and was able to assist Deputies in gaining control of Thomas. As deputies attempted to take Thomas into custody, he was able to make it to his feet where he again tried to run from police. Axel was released a second time where he again apprehended Thomas. Deputies were then able to take Thomas into custody.
Deputies transported Thomas to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. Thomas was transported to the Jennings County Jail and during intake procedures, jail staff located Methamphetamine hidden on his person.
Thomas is facing preliminary charges of:
-Resisting Law Enforcement…. A Misd.
-Possession of Methamphetamine…. Level 6 Felony
