Escapee, Suspect In Several Bank Robberies Captured

Detective Harris was able to deploy a taser and take Martinez into custody without further incident.

(Madison, Ind.) – After many days of searching the area, authorities have located Anthony Martinez.

On September 29, Martinez escaped from the Louisville Correction and had been at large since. When authorities first announced he escaped they stated that he was last seen at the Jefferson/ Scott County line.

On October 13, the Madison Police Department assisted in a joint federal and local investigation to locate Martinez.

Martinez was originally arrested on both state and federal charges for a string of bank robberies in both Indiana and Kentucky, including the December 2019 bank robbery of the Business and Industrial Federal Credit Union in Madison.

During a search of a wooded area in Hanover, Martinez was located and fled from authorities. Madison Police Department Detectives Harris and Cutshaw along with Patrolman Ashcraft followed Martinez from near the Presbyterian Church in Hanover to the CVD pharmacy.

Detective Harris was able to deploy a taser and take Martinez into custody without further incident.

Martinez was released to the custody of the US Marshal service.
