By Kentucky State Police/WAVE 3

Southbound still closed

Northbound lanes on Interstate 71 are back open after a two-vehicle crash in Henry County that involved at least one commercial vehicle brought traffic to a halt in both directions this morning near 8.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes at the 30 mile marker near Sulphur, but caused both the northbound and southbound lanes to close backing up southbound traffic past the Campbellsburg exit (34).

I-71 Southbound is expected to be closed for several hours while the crash investigation takes place and the wreckage is cleared.

A detour has been set up. Southbound drivers can use Exit 34 and take Highway 421 to Bedford, then turn left onto U.S. Highway 42 West. Follow U.S. 42
West to Sligo, turn left on Highway 153 and re-enter I-71 south at Exit 28.

Except very slow going as the highways are two lanes with several curves.
