Scott County- On 6-26-2024, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home along US31, north of the Austin City limits, to conduct a welfare check. The occupant of the home had reportedly not been seen by neighbors in several weeks before deputies were dispatched to the residence. First Sergeant Johnney Coomer arrived and discovered a badly decomposed body inside the home. Coomer, along with Lt Col Joe Guarneri and Corporal Eric Balingit of the Sheriff’s Office, secured the scene, requesting the Scott County Coroner’s Office to respond to the home, which they did. An identification (positive ID) of the deceased is being sought by the coroner's office…no other occupants of the home were discovered at the scene.

Currently, there is no known danger to the public and no foul play is suspected. The investigation is continuing. If you have information or you have seen anyone coming or going from the residence (1240 N. US Hwy 31) within the last month, please contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 812-752-5550. You can remain anonymous.
