POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE
On Monday, Ptl. Brittany Tate began a theft investigation in the 800 Block of West Third Street in reference to a citizen that had a food package delivered at their residence. The citizen observed a male subject take the package and leave on a bicycle. During the investigation led by Ptl. Tate, she later obtained a photograph from a surveillance camera at a nearby residence. The photograph was placed on Social Media. The Madison Police Department received several tips identifying the possible suspect as Michael A. Abbott, Age 42 of Madison.
Tuesday, Detective Ricky Harris assisted Ptl. Tate and was able to obtain a search warrant for the residence belonging to Abbott. Detectives, Ptl. Tate, Lt. Bruce Heaton, and Ptl. Aaron Watson, served the warrant at Abbotts residence, located at 709 Presbyterian Avenue.
During the search of the residence officers located Abbott. Also inside the residence were two females, identified as Sydney D. Mikesell, Age 21 of Madison, and Ashley K. Kerr, Age 29 of Madison. Officers located the shipping box that was reported stolen. The food shipped in the package was located in the refrigerator inside the residence.
While inside the residence, officers located multiple amount of drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine. Based on the items observed, Detective Harris obtained an additional search warrant for narcotics. During a further search, officers located multiple syringes, glass pipes, marijuana, and methamphetamine.
Based on the items found all three subjects were placed under arrest. During the arrest, Kerr was found to be in possession of syringes. All charges are enhancing based on the distance from Lydia Middleton Elementary School.
