Jefferson County, Indiana (April 26, 2024) - A Madison man was sentenced to 33 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections in Jefferson Circuit Court Friday by Judge D.J. Mote. Clinton D. Collins, 42, was convicted by a Jefferson County jury earlier this month of Burglary While Armed with a Deadly Weapon, Robbery While Armed with a Deadly Weapon and Theft.

“I am well-pleased with this sentence,” said Prosecutor David Sutter. “This was a terrifying crime for the victim, who was defenseless due to his disability. I hope this sentence sends a strong message to those who are so bold as to commit such serious offenses.”

Last September, Collins broke into the home of a disabled man, throwing him onto the ground and demanding money. Collins, who was armed with a knife, stole the victim’s cell phone.

Collins fled the home. A short time later, police were called to Taco Bell regarding a drunken man who had damaged the bathroom. When officers responded, they located Collins, who had a knife in his possession.

Detective Ricky Harris began an investigation and by utilizing phone records determined that Collins had used the victim’s phone to place calls and texts. The victim also identified Collins through a photo lineup and identified the knife Collins had when he entered his home.

“This investigation involved the City of Madison Police Department and Detective Harris, 911 Central Dispatch, and multiple citizens who assisted,” said Sutter. “It was the cooperation of all involved that resulted in a successful prosecution and sentencing.”
