City of Madison Reverts to Electronic Public Meetings

Those wishing to participate are urged to use one of the following means for public participation.

(Madison, Ind.) - In compliance with Governor Holcomb’s recent directives, the City of Madison is once again suspending all nonessential meetings. All public meetings deemed necessary for the continued operation of government or to address critical or essential matters will be conducted electronically via Zoom.

“We have seen a rise in COVID-19 cases across the community and the state. Jefferson County currently resides in the orange category per the Indiana State Department of Health’s criteria and must “Get Back to Blue”. To discourage gatherings, we believe it is best to move meetings deemed necessary to an electronic platform,” said Mayor Bob Courtney.  

Subject to change as needed, the public meetings that will continue to meet are as follows:

  • City Council
  • Board of Public Works
  • Plan Commission
  • Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Historic District Board of Review
  • Redevelopment Commission
  • PACE Grant Committee
  • Parks Board

While the public will not be able to attend in person, public input is still welcome. All board material will be posted on the city’s website at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.  Those wishing to participate are urged to use one of the following means for public participation.

  • Public comments may be submitted to the board by email or by letter addressed to the appropriate board and mail to City Hall, 101 W. Main St., Madison, IN 47250. For deadlines and board-specific email addresses, please visit http://madison-in.gov/432/Public-Meeting-Format.
  • Any member of the public wishing to speak for or against any application or matter being addressed by the board may request the Zoom log-in information by calling 812-265-8300. For more information regarding joining the Zoom meetings, visit http://madison-in.gov/432/Public-Meeting-Format.
  • Any member of the public wishing to listen or watch the meetings may do so through the city’s Facebook page.

City Hall will remain open to the public during this time, but we encourage those visiting to call ahead to schedule an appointment and to use the water department drive-thru window as often as possible. When conducting business inside City Hall, masks are required at all times. “The health of our community and our staff is important. We are asking for your cooperation in helping us continue to safely operate and provide essential services to the city,” said Mayor Courtney.
