TUESDAY NIGHT THE MADISON CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A PURCHASE OF 8 PARCELS ALONG THE RIVERFRONT AND ALSO THE LOT AT THE CORNER OF JEFFERSON ST AND VAUGHN DR, THAT MADISON REGATTA CURRENTLY LEASES TO STORE BOAT DOCKS AND OTHER ITEMS WHEN NOT USING THEM,THE CITY PURCHASED THOSE TRACTS FOR A PURCHASE PRICE OF $ 159,500 A LOT LESS THE APPRASIAL PRICE
THE MAYOR REPORTED THAT THE MADISON AREA RUNNING CLUB HAS TAKEN OVER THE FIRECRACKER 10K RUN/WALK AND THAT THE EVENT WILL BE HELD SATURDAY MORNING JULY 3RD DURING THE MADISON REGATTA FESTIVITIES THE EVENT HAS BE A TRADITION SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1979,THE EVENT WAS PREVIOUSLY MADISON COURIER 10K RUN/WALK UNTIL 2020 EVENT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID.'
MADISON POLICE CHIEF JOHN WALLACE ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL THAT BEGINNING AFTER THE MADISON REGATTA MADISON POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROL OFFICERS WOULD BE GOING TO 12 HR SHIFTS,THIS WILL BE A 6 MONTH TRIAL TO SEE HOW THE NEW SHIFTS WORK,WITH THESE SHIFTS IT ALLOWS FOR MORE MANPOWER DURING BUSY TIMES IN THE CITY.
THE MAYOR ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT THE CITY WOULD BE RECEIVING $2.5 MILLION DOLLARS AS A PART OF THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN,THE MONEY WILL BE GIVEN IN TWO INSTALLMENTS ONE IN 2021 AND THE OTHER IN 2022,THE CITY HAS TO SUBMIT A PLAN AS TO WHAT THE MONEY THEY ARE RECEIVING WILL BE USED FOR.
