City of Madison Police Department Launches Neighborhood Watch Program

New initiative aimed at enhancing community safety

Madison, Indiana (August 12, 2024) – The City of Madison Police Department (MPD) is excited to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at enhancing community safety and fostering strong partnerships between law enforcement and residents. The Neighborhood Watch Program, a first for Madison, encourages citizen engagement and collaboration to prevent crime and promote a secure environment.

Neighborhood Watch is a community-driven program where residents work together to monitor and report suspicious activities to local law enforcement. The program aims to foster a sense of collective responsibility among neighbors, promoting the safety and security of the entire community. By being vigilant and supportive, participants can help deter criminal activity and enhance their neighborhood's overall safety.

"We believe that a strong partnership between the community and law enforcement is key to maintaining a safe and secure city," said MPD Chief of Police, Shawn Scudder. “The Neighborhood Watch Program empowers residents to take an active role in protecting their neighborhoods, and we are excited to see the positive impact this initiative will have in our community."

Madison has been divided into 12 neighborhoods, each represented by a Neighborhood Captain. Initial meetings have been scheduled to establish these captains and encourage residents to join the program. A map of the neighborhoods and the meeting schedule can be found at Madison in.gov/neighborhoodwatch.

We encourage all residents to get involved in this important initiative. By working together and staying vigilant, we can make Madison a safer, more connected community for everyone.
