(Madison, Ind.) - The City of Madison has implemented new procedures effective immediately regarding the city parks and campgrounds.

The basketball courts will remain open, but individuals must adhere to the following rules. There will be no pick- up games allowed, there should be no more than two people on the court at a time, social distancing must be observed, and no crowding around or near the courts.

The city also stated that the shelter houses will remain open, but individuals must adhere to the following rules. There should be no more than ten people in the shelter house at a time, social distancing must be observed, and there should be no crowding around or near the shelter house.

The city campground will remain closed until April, where the city will then reevaluate this decision as needed.

All playgrounds are closed at this time as they pose a high risk of spreading the virus.

“Governor Holcomb’s stay-at-home order allows for cities to keep their parks open, providing the community with recreational opportunities and the option to enjoy the spring weather outdoors; however, social distancing guidelines must be followed. Violations of the procedures implemented will result in the closure of all parks and the golf course,” said Mayor Bob Courtney.
