Downtown has not had a grocery store since 2018
Madison, Indiana (September 18, 2024) – Wednesday, the City of Madison proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new DG Market with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This exciting development brings a much-anticipated grocery store back to the downtown area, addressing a crucial need for residents and visitors following the closure of Ruler Foods in 2018.
Local officials, including Mayor Bob Courtney, were joined by Dollar General representatives, community members, and business leaders to officially welcome the DG Market to its new location, 120 E. 2nd Street, Madison, IN 47250. The store offers a wide variety of fresh produce and groceries, household goods, and everyday essentials, filling a gap in the community and providing greater accessibility for residents in the heart of Madison.
"This is a meaningful day for our city," said Mayor Courtney. "When I took office, I made a commitment to bring a grocery store back to our downtown, and I'm proud to see that promise fulfilled today. The opening of DG Market not only restores convenient access to fresh food for our community but also strengthens the vibrancy of our cultural arts and historic district. It's a win for everyone in Madison."
"We are thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship with the Madison community,” said Neil Rumohr, DG Market District Manager. “Dollar General has been proud to serve Madison since December of 1972, and with the opening of this new Market store, we’re excited to enhance our offerings and better meet the needs of residents. This store allows us to provide more fresh, quality products in a convenient location, and we look forward to being a greater part of this vibrant community for years to come.”
The event concluded with a ribbon cutting and store tours, as local leaders and DG Market representatives expressed optimism about the positive impact the store will have on downtown residents and businesses. Mayor Courtney highlighted how this development aligns with the city's ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for all Madison residents.
