The Crystal Beach Pool House Rehabilitation project focuses on improving ADA access and extending the facility's life.

(Madison, Ind.) - The City of Madison is excited to announce that the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) has awarded the city $2 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the Crystal Beach Rehabilitation project. The funds awarded through this CDBG grant are a result of Madison's designation as an Indiana Stellar Community in fall 2017.

"The renovation of Crystal Beach has been a priority throughout the Stellar Communities Designation. The decision by the Stellar Communities Executive Team to select one project to receive the $2 million from the state enabled us to expand the scope of work for this project," said Nicole M Schell, City Planner – Preservation Coordinator.

The Crystal Beach Pool House Rehabilitation project focuses on improving ADA access and extending the facility's life. The project includes an improved concession area with ADA access to the street, accessible spray pad, restored perimeter fence and walls, renovated accessible pool deck, repaired and renovated bath, shower, and locker rooms for ADA accessibility, an elevator for ADA access to 2nd floor, renovated 2nd-floor restrooms for ADA access, and a new pool liner.

"This award has been a long-time coming.  For the past year, we have been building on the work of my predecessor, Mayor Damon Welch, to not only continue to work on the Stellar strategic investments, but to extend the useful life of Crystal Beach for the next generation. I am grateful that OCRA has allowed us to modify the scope of the project such that it will have a positive impact on the community for the next two decades or longer," said Mayor Bob Courtney.

Stellar Communities is a multi-agency state partnership aimed at helping communities reach their goals. The project is estimated to begin in March of this year. Plans for the project can be viewed at http://www.madison-in.gov/409/Stellar-Destination-Development
