Madison man arrested on kidnapping and narcotics charges, child found safe
March 11, 2020, @ approximately 6:52 AM - The Madison Police Department investigated a reported missing child from the Madison Wal-Mart 567 Ivy Tech Drive. The reporting party stated she left her 3 year old child in the care of Adam Denning 37, Madison, Indiana, while she went shopping at the Madison Wal-Mart. Upon returning to the parking lot, the mother of the 3 year old child noticed her car missing, along with her son.
A description of the car was obtained and investigating officer, Lieutenant Dan Slygh, located the vehicle in the 900 block of Gerry Lane. Inside the vehicle was the missing 3 year old child abandoned, and unharmed. The child was transported to KDH-ER for evaluation.
A search for Denning was conducted in the area of Walnut Street / Gerry Lane area. At approximately 8:17 AM Madison Police Patrolman James Lee observed Denning walking in the 400 block of Walnut Street. Officers converged on the area and took Denning into custody without incident. Denning was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he awaits his initial court appearance on the following preliminary alleged charges - KIDNAPPING level 5 felony, AUTO THEFT level 6 felony, and NEGLECT OF A DEPENDENT level 6 felony . In addition to the charges filed by the Madison Police, Denning faces level 2 felony charges for DEALING METHAMPHETAMINE, CONSPIRACY TO DEAL METHAMPHETAMINE, and level 4 POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE. The narcotic charges are the result of an investigation led by the Indiana State Police, in which a warrant had previously been issued for Denning's arrest.
Lieutenant Slygh is being assisted with this ongoing investigation by Madison Police Detectives Ricky Harris and Kyle Cutshaw. The Madison Police were assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Child Services. Adam Denning has the presumption of innocents until proven guilty.
