These two changes will be voted on at the next board meeting on April 5.

(Madison, Ind.) – The Madison Board of Public Works and Safety met on Monday for their second monthly meeting.
Madison Police Chief John Wallace proposed making changes to two of the standard operating procedure for the police department.
The first change will add wording stating a new hire’s probationary status, which is usually one year, can be extended up to six months by the Madison Police Merit Board. Chief Wallace stated that this is already in operation at the police department, but he would like it to be put into writing.
The second change would reduce the years of service required for an officer to be promoted to a captain position.
Currently, it officers need to be with the department for 6 years to move to captain, but Chief Wallace would like to reduce it to 5 years. For lieutenant moved from 5 years to 4 years, and sergeant from 4 years to 3 years.
Wallace stated that he thinks that this change will provide more opportunities for officers who have out in commitment to the department.
These two changes will be voted on at the next board meeting on April 5.
