Carroll Co. Schools Not Returning On January 4

District administrators will monitor the situation in the coming weeks before making a decision about when to return to in-person instruction.

(Carrollton, Ky.) – As a result of the rising COVID-19 infection rate in Carroll County and due to a recommendation from Governor Andy Beshear, Carroll County School District Students will not be returning to in-person classes on January 4, 2021.

Governor Beshear recommended for students to return on January 11. District administrators will monitor the situation in the coming weeks before making a decision about when to return to in-person instruction.

This continued virtual period applies to all schools and students in the Carroll County School District. However, small groups of students will still be able to learn in-person as needed and if possible.  

“Carroll County’s infection rate is almost 90 per 100,000 population at the moment,” said Superintendent Danny Osborne. “To my knowledge, this is higher than anything we have seen so far. I am concerned about the infection rate, and furthermore, Governor Beshear has recommended that schools remain closed to in-person instruction until at least Jan. 11. As painful as it is, we have to do our part to help slow the spread of the virus”

The school stated that weekly food deliveries will continue to all Carroll County School District students who reside within the county. Deliveries will be made between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. Each delivery will consist of five school breakfasts and lunches per child.

All athletic programs will continue to follow KHSAA guidelines, which allow for winter sports practices through December. Athletic competitions may resume on January 4.
