BMV Asks Customers To Limit Use Of Cash When Possible

This new request is due to the national coin shortage.

File Photo

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), is asking Hoosiers to pay with a credit card or check when completing transactions while in at the BMV. This request stems from the national coin shortage which is directly impacting branches across Indiana.

Currently, the United States Federal Reserve is experiencing a coin shortage that is impacting Financial Intuitions across the country.

The BMV is now unable to access additional coin inventory to restock supplies. Starting a few weeks ago, all BMV branches were required to take steps to alleviate the impact of the shortage.

Now, customers are being asked to use cash when paying with exact change. There will also be signs posted in which explain the situation and why branches are asking for alternate forms of payment.

The Federal Reserve has not provided any information as to when the shortage will be resolved. It is expected that coin inventories will return to previous levels when the coin supply chain returns to normal circulation patterns.
