FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) – Gov. Andy Beshear was joined by education advocates and other officials for a ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda on Monday, sponsored by the Pritchard Committee for Academic Excellence, to celebrate the week of Nov. 17-23 as Family & Community Engagement in Education Week in Kentucky.
Grace McKenzie, director of the Family Friendly Schools program, within the Prichard Committee, stated the purpose of the occasion in simple. “Ensuring that Kentucky students get the best education possible. We have teachers and guests here representing schools and communities.”
She also noted everyone in the community has a role to play in helping the Pritchard Committee reach their goal of getting the best education possible.
Beshear told the crowd first lady Britainy Beshear would have been on hand for the ceremony, but she was attending a similar event going on in Louisville.
“To be able to share our family’s time and our family moments, the love of reading and the love of learning across Kentucky, is a pretty special thing for us and we are grateful. Every family deserves to have that time to read and to learn together, and to feel included in their child’s education.”
As an example, Beshear said it was amazing to see the growth of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which has now expanded to all 120 counties in Kentucky.
“The Imagination Library is just one example of our people coming together, including all the school systems, to help our kids learn and grow,” Beshear pointed out. “For more than 40 years, the Pritchard Committee has worked tirelessly to make sure every child in our Commonwealth can get a world class education.”
Among the highlights of the event, the Governor signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 17-23 as Family & Community Engagement in Education Week in Kentucky.
