Intensifying the burden and costs faced by states.”
FRANKFORT, Ky. (December 1, 2022) – Attorney General Cameron continued his defense of Title 42 by filing a motion in federal district court to stop the Biden Administration from terminating this important immigration policy.
“President Biden’s failure to address the immigration crisis at the border has led to a surge in illegal drug possession and trafficking by convicted criminal aliens, which is having a direct impact on Kentucky,” said Attorney General Cameron. “Ending the Title 42 policy will dramatically increase number of illegal migrants coming across our border, intensifying the burden and costs faced by states.”
Title 42 is a policy implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during the Trump Administration. It allows the near-immediate removal of illegal immigrants.
The motion filed by 15 attorneys general asks the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to allow the coalition to challenge a lower court’s decision that would terminate Title 42 on December 21. According to the motion, termination of Title 42 will worsen the border crisis right before Christmas and exacerbate the “costs imposed on the States.”
Attorney General Cameron joined attorneys general from Arizona, Louisiana, Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming in filing the motion.
