Association of Indiana Counties Announces Essay Contest

Winners will be announced and notified in April 2021.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) is inviting 4th-grade classrooms across the state of Indiana to participate in an essay contest.

The essay focus is “Examining the Administration of the Indiana Property Tax Process”.

Essay requirements are as follows:

  • The essay should focus on the property taxation process in your county. Students should interview the County Assessor, County Auditor, County Treasurer, or County Council to learn more about the taxation process and how it is administered fairly and efficiently. This would also be a great opportunity to invite these officials to the classroom.
  • Essays should be no longer than one page, typed or handwritten.
  • Students should answer these questions: How are property taxes determined? How are they collected in your county? How are taxes disbursed and who receives tax property revenue?
  • Parent(s)/guardians’ names, phone, and email (Note: this is for notification of the winners).
  • Teacher’s name, school, and email.
  • To be considered by our judging committee, all entries should be postmarked by April 1, 2021, and mailed directly to the address below:

                              Attn: Elizabeth Mallers

Winners will be announced and notified in April 2021, and checks will be distributed in May.
