Arrests made in New Year’s Eve shooting At Windridge Apartments

Lengthy investigation led to the arrest

                                        

  On January 1, 2024, MPD Officers responded to a shooting that occurred near the Windridge apartment complex. Officers learned that a male was in the area to meet with a female when he was approached by two unknown males. One of the two unknown males fired an AR-15 towards the complainant, with one bullet penetrating the complainant’s vehicle. The complainant was not struck by the gunfire.

 MPD’s Detective Division took over the case. After reviewing camera footage and receiving electronic communication and GPS records Detectives were able to identify the two unknown males. On 01/29/2024, arrest warrants were issued, and Detectives took Anthony Edwards, age 24 of Madison, and Austin Riley, age 22 of Madison into custody. Additionally, Detectives conducted searches of two separate apartments in the areas of Taft Drive and Windridge drive, where the AR-15 suspected to be used in the shooting was located.

Both Anthony Edwards and Austin Riley are currently charged with being serious violent felons in possession of a firearm (level 4 Felony). Anthony Edwards faces an additional charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon (level 5 felony). Both Edwards and Riley have the presumption of innocence unless otherwise proven guilty in a court of law. Both suspects have bonds currently set at $10,000.
