(Jennings County, Ind.) - Jennings county police responded to a vehicle crash yesterday on highway 50 in Nebraska.
Deputy Garrett Hoppock and Sargent Anthony Maberry learned upon arrival the driver had fled on foot.
While searching for the driver, a vehicle traveling at a high speed crossed the centerline causing Deputy Hoppock to jump into a ditch to avoid being struck.
Sargent Allen Ritchie and canine partner Vampir were in the area and were able to locate the second vehicle, and the driver Weldon Wiley, 44 of Westport.
Wiley refused to stop the vehicle and after a short pursuit, he crashed the vehicle and then fled on foot.
Vampir was deployed and Wiley was then taken into custody.
During the investigation, it was found that both vehicles were stolen the first out of Ripley County and the second near Jennings County.
It was also found that Wiley had entered a residence without permission seeking a ride.
Wiley is currently being held in the Jennings County Jail on a $1,055 bond.
Wiley faces these charges:
Auto Theft- Level 6 Felony
Criminal Recklessness- A Misdemeanor
Resisting by Fleeing- Level 6 Felony
Residential Entry- Level 6 Felony
OWI w/ endangerment- A Misdemeanor
Leaving the scene of an accident- A Misdemeanor
