Now Sunday at 2pm
Due to high winds, heavy rain, and potential thunderstorms forecast for most of Saturday, the City of Madison and the Christmas Parade committee has made the decision to delay “A Very Merry Madison Christmas Parade” until 2pm on Sunday, December 2nd.
“While we realize that moving something as iconic as the parade will unfortunately cause some inconveniences, we feel strongly that delaying until Sunday – when the weather forecast is much better – will result in the safest and best parade experience for participants and spectators alike, and prevents the parade from being canceled altogether. We hope by making the announcement earlier rather than waiting to see if the weather changes, more people will be able to participate and enjoy all that the parade has to offer, which will again include large helium balloons, beloved cartoon characters, and numerous floats done by local organizations and businesses,” said Andrew Forrester, the City of Madison Community Relations Director.
With the change, the parade lineup will open at 12 Noon, Main Street will close at 1:00pm, and participants are expected to be in place by 1:30pm.
Santa Claus will continue plans to be at the cottage on Main Street on Saturday from 1-3pm, but will not have any availability after the parade on Sunday.
