Sheriff's Department continues investigation

A Carroll County man is dead after being shot Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the Sycamore Trace subdivision on Sycamore Circle just before 5:50 Tuesday morning on a report of a shooting.

The Carroll County Coroner confirmed Shaun Corley, 37, died around an hour later, after he was shot in the chest.

His death has not yet been ruled a homicide, the coroner said.

According to Coroner David Wilhoite, Corley kicked in the door of the home, and the homeowner shot him.

Just before the shooting, Wilhoite says Corley got into an argument with nearby sanitation engineers who were picking up the trash, and he pulled a knife on the workers. According to Wilhoite, a fight ensued, but it was eventually broken up. That's when, Wilhoite says, Corley went to the home and kicked in the door.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the shooting. But there have been no arrests.
