Practical Steps for Prevention
MADISON, Ind. – The COVID pandemic has been rough on all age groups, but a recent study by the National Institute on Drug Abuse indicates that for adolescents the use of nicotine and misuse of prescription drugs increased during the pandemic. Prevention is a key to not only keeping our youth healthy, but to stop substance abuse from taking root and leading to health and criminal justice issues for adults. To help parents and other caregivers better understand the affect of tobacco, e-cigarettes, and other drugs on our youth and how easy it is to miss the signs of use, the Tobacco Coalition of Jefferson County, Purdue Extension – Jefferson County, and the Healthy Communities Initiative are teaming up for a presentation entitled, “Practical Steps for Prevention: A Caregivers Guide.” It will be on October 27th at 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in room 1355/1375 at Ivy Tech Community College – Madison. The presenters and topics are: • Tobacco Data and Statistics - Kodi Applegate, Jefferson County Tobacco Coalition • Caregiver Prevention Strategies - Jessica Martini, Purdue Extension Jefferson County • Hidden in Plain Sight Demonstration - Keith Howard, Healthy Communities Initiative All adults in the community are invited to attend.
