The Pistol Annies Are Back in the Studio!

Something new coming

For several months, the Pistol Annies have been teasing that ... well, something is in the works, but it seems like new music from the trio is finally getting closer. The group posted an in-studio selfie to Instagram on Wednesday (July 18), captioned "Sangin' some songs. #staytuned," that made it pretty clear that the country group is gearing up to release something new.

The Pistol Annies have not released new music since 2013, when they dropped Annie Up, their sophomore album and the follow-up to the 2011 debut, Hell on Heels. In June of 2013, the trio suddenly canceled all upcoming live performances, and rumors circulated that the Annies might be breaking up for good. However, all three of the group's members denied this, explaining that work together had to take a temporary backseat to all three members' solo material, but that they were determined to get in the studio at some point.

The group teased that a new project could be in the works in January of 2018, when Annies member and country superstar Miranda Lambert posted an image of a guitar, a glass of wine and a blank notebook to her Instagram, including the hashtag, "#maybepistolannies." Then, the other two members of the Annies, Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe, made appearances at stops for Lambert's Livin' Like Hippies Tour that March for a Pistol Annies reunion. However, Lambert said that while the wheels of the group were definitely turning, fans shouldn't expect to have new music in their hands just yet.

The process of writing, recording and releasing new music takes time, especially for a group that has to juggle the scheduling needs of three busy solo artists. However, the group says their friendship is still strong. When Lambert made ACM history in 2018 by becoming the show's most-awarded artist in history, Presley and Monroe cheered on their friend from the sidelines.

While there is still no word on what the new Pistol Annies music will be, or what the timeline is for its release, it seems clear that the trio is working towards something, and that that project is steadily moving forward.
