Deer of the Day is back!!!

Buck or doe. Shotgun or bow. We are welcoming everybody’s nominations for the WIKI 95.3 Deer of the Day, presented by The Rusty Buck, of course!

The tri-state’s BEST and ORIGINAL deer photo contest is giving our listeners the chance to show off their prized whitetail harvested during the 2024-25 hunting season. Each day, we’ll publish on this page a photo and story submitted by a listener.

The Deer of the Day grand prize winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Rusty Buck!

We are welcoming your nominations now through December 31, 2024! There are some simple rules to follow:

Email your medium to high resolution photo in JPEG or GIF file format to info@953wiki.com (953wiki.com). Please include your name, city of residence, and location of the harvest along with a one paragraph story detailing your successful hunt.
Keep your photo and story tasteful. Photos showing too much blood and/or guts won’t be considered (yuck!).
The deer shown must have been hunted legally and ethically during the 2024 bow, firearms, muzzleloader, or youth hunting season in local areas of Indiana, Ohio, or Kentucky.

Friday morning November 1 harvested this 8pt he was walking down trail when I saw him looking around. He then stopped so I took my grunt call and made a few grunts that got him wound up he then started rubbing trees and making scrapes. He made a circle in front of me so I gave him a couple snort wheez calls. He then tucked his ears back and was on a mission to find the intruder. He came 20 yes from me and I was able to place ethical shot on him.

I have been hunting for 4 years now, and this buck is my very first harvest. We've seen him on camera a few times, but I never thought I would see him in person! I'm sitting in my stand about an hour before sunset, and to my left I catch a glimpse of him! From probably 60 yards away I can see how massive his antlers are! I watch him for about 10 minutes getting stuck in all the thickets, I didn't think he would come my way. But he did, and I took about a 45 yard broadside shot! Was a very emotional time for me!

Ken Catt from Canaan, Indiana. Deer harvested in Jefferson County. Was hunting from my popup blind on the afternoon of Nov 17. After an uneventful afternoon he came out into the open from the thickets. He presented a good shot from about 50 yards. I feel very fortunate!

Jack isn't eligible to win the Deer of the Day, because his wife works at WIKI, but she was proud of him and the deer he harvested during the public hunt at Charlestown State Park in Clark County. So here's the picture of his big one. Getting this big guy was a great be-lated birthday present for Jack.
