Community Food Drive

The 40th annual Food Drive for the Carroll County Food Pantry begins Monday, November 11th and continues through Friday, November 15th. Students from the Carroll County Schools, Carrollton Christian Academy, I- Lead, and JCTC – Carrollton Campus will be collecting non perishable food items for the Pantry. Area businesses, including Carrollton Federal Bank, Farmers Bank of Milton, First National Bank of Kentucky, Carroll County Water District No. 1, and the Carroll County Public Library will also serve as drop off sites for those wanting to donate food to the Pantry.

“The Pantry is a non profit organization, staffed entirely by volunteers from this community,” Ruth Baxter, Treasurer, stated. “We’re available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm., to provide food to those in need who live in this county. Families are given enough food to last a week while they deal with their food insecurity.”

On average the Food Pantry assists approximately 11 families a week, up to 40 people. At

Christmas an additional 200 families received food assistance. The Pantry also distributes federal commodities to those who qualify on the third Wednesday of each month, serving another 220 families that day on average.

“The Pantry has been operating for over 40 years because of the generosity of the people of this community,” Baxter stated. “We depend upon the donated non perishable food items and cash donations we receive to buy those food items that are not donated.”

Items especially needed for the Food Pantry include canned beef stew, chicken or tuna; peanut butter; jelly; canned fruit; saltine crackers; cereal and canned or jar spaghetti and noodles.

Food donations can also be dropped off at the Food Pantry at 113 Third Street, Carrollton, Kentucky.
