Two Arrested On Abuse And Child Molestation Charges
On Tuesday, September 5, 2017 Deputy Shane Gibson responded with the Department of Child Services to the 1300 block of Polk Road in Lexington, IN in reference to a welfare check on a female juvenile. After speaking with the juvenile it was determined that she had been a victim of a sex offense. Deputy Gibson requested the assistance of Det. Yancy Denning and Det. Tim Armstrong to assist him in the investigation. During the investigation it was learned that the victim had been sexually abused by two adult males. Investigators learned where one of the suspects was working nearby and went to that location to speak with him. Once officers arrived the suspect fled into the wooded area of the property. With assistance from other Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Scott County Sheriff’s Department the suspect, Alexander Gomez 38, was located and taken into custody.
During the search for Alexander Gomez the other suspect, Obedo Gomez 26, arrived to the location. Alexander was questioned on scene and admitted to having sexual intercourse with the 13 year old juvenile. He was then taken into custody. Both Alexander Gomez and Obedo Gomez were transported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Jail.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2017 with the assistance from the Indiana Gaming Commission Investigator Manuel Becker, Alexander Gomez and Obedo Gomez were interviewed at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Both Alexander Gomez and Obedo Gomez confessed to having sexual intercourse with the 13 year old victim. Alexander Gomez was charged with 2 counts of Level 1 felony Child Molestation. Obedo Gomez was charged with 1 count of Level 1 Felony Child Molestation. Level 1 Felony sentencing range is 20 – 40 years in prison and up to $10,000.00 fine.
On Thursday, September 7, 2017 Alexander Gomez had his initial hearing in the Jefferson Circuit Court. He was advised of his charges and was given a $50,000 cash only bond. Obedo Gomez also had his initial hearing in Jefferson Circuit Court. He was also given a $50,000 cash only bond. No contact orders were also issued to both Alexander Gomez and Obedo Gomez to have no contact with the victim in this case.
Persons arrested are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
