Arrest Made in Human Trafficking Case in Gallatin Co.

Carrollton, KY. (July 27, 2017) – On May 20, 2017 Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg received a complaint of Human Trafficking in Gallatin County, Kentucky.


The complaint was in reference to Jesus Chavez, a 56 year old Hispanic male from Bedford, Kentucky in Trimble County.  Mr. Chavez is the owner / operator of Drain Pro – a general maintenance company located in Bedford, Kentucky.  The complaint was in reference to contracted work for a plumbing job at the Ramada Inn in Sparta, Kentucky.  The complainant stated he had worked 60 hours for Mr. Chavez.  When it came time for Mr. Chavez to pay, he refused to pay for the services and threatened to contact Immigration and Customs if the complainant went to the police and report him as being in the United States illegally.  When the complainant continued to ask for his payment, Mr. Chavez threatened to contact ICE again to have him deported.


On July 18, 2017 Kentucky State Police was provided with a civil judgement out of Clark County Indiana where Mr. Chavez never paid employees who completed work for him in 2003.    Mr. Chavez has failed to show up for court to contest these charges.  Kentucky State Police presented this case to the Gallatin County Grand Jury on July 24, 2017 for one count of Human Trafficking, a Class C Felony.  The Gallatin County Grand Jury returned a True Bill for Indictment.


On July 26, 2017 Kentucky State Police Post 5 detectives located Mr. Chavez at the Carroll County Public Library and placed him under arrest.  Mr. Chavez has been lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.  At this time the Kentucky State Police has been assisted by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office which covers Gallatin County, Homeland Security, Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, and the Department of State.  Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg is requesting the assistance of the public to come forward for any other crimes committed by Mr. Chavez in reference to Human Trafficking
